Here are the timeframes of the Thai citizenship application under the Nationality Act B.E. 2508 (1965).

Applying a Thai Nationality for a Thai Spouse under Section 9 (Total 475 Days)

    1. Applicant applies with competent officials through:
      1. An embassy or a consular (overseas domicile).
      2. The Police Commander, Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police (Bangkok domicile).
      3. The Police Commander of the Provincial Police or the Provincial Committee (other provinces).
  1. Competent officials forward the application to the Ministry of Interior (100 days).
  2. The Ministry of Interior submits the application to the Subcommittee on Applying Nationality (60 days).
  3. The Subcommittee submits the application to the Review Committee on Nationality under Section 25 (60 days).
  4. The Review Committee on Nationality submits the proposal of the nationality application to the Minister of the Ministry of Interior for consideration (45 days).
  5. The Minister of the Ministry of Interior considers for approval or denial (45 days).
  6. Approval of outcome process:
    1. The Ministry of Interior submits the approved application to the Cabinet Secretary to publish in the Royal Gazette under Section 5 (30 days).
    2. The Cabinet Secretary submits the certificate of approval published in the Royal Gazette with the Ministry of Interior (75 days).
    3. The Ministry of Interior sends the approved certificate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police, the Governor or the Vice-Governor of Bangkok (30 days).
  7. Denial of outcome process:
    1. The Ministry of Interior submits the denied application to the Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police.
    2. The Special Branch Bureau of the Royal Thai Police informs the applicant on the denied application.

Naturalization Under Section 10 (Total 730 Days)

  1. Applicant applies with competent officials through either:
    1. The Police Commander, Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police (Bangkok domicile).
    2. The Police Commander of the Provincial Police or the Provincial Committee (other provinces).
  2. Competent officials forward the application to the Ministry of Interior (100 days).
  3. The Ministry of Interior submits the application to the Subcommittee on Applying Nationality (60 days).
  4. The Subcommittee submits the application to the Review Committee on Nationality under Section 25 (60 days).
  5. The Review Committee on Nationality submits the proposal of the nationality application to the Minister of the Ministry of Interior for consideration (45 days).
  6. The Minister of the Ministry of Interior considers for approval or denial (45 days).
  7. Approval of outcome process:
    1. The Ministry of Interior submits the approved application to the Cabinet Secretary.
    2. The Cabinet Secretary submits the approved application with the Office of the Royal Secretariat for royal assent (120 days).
    3. The Office of the Royal Secretariat returns the royal-assent application to the Ministry of Interior.
    4. The Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police invites the applicant to pledge the Oath of Allegiance under Section 12 (30 days).
    5. The Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police submits the proof of the Oath of Allegiance to the Ministry of Interior (45 days).
    6. Submit the proposal to the Minister for ratification in the Ministerial Regulation (60 days).
    7. The Ministry of Interior submits the ratified announcement to the Cabinet Secretary to publish in the Royal Gazette under Section 5
      (30 days).
    8. The Cabinet Secretary submits the certificate of approval published in the Royal Gazette to the Ministry of Interior (75 days).
    9. The Ministry of Interior sends the approved certificate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police, the Governor or the Vice-Governor of Bangkok (30 days).
  8. Denial of outcome process:
    1. The Ministry of Interior submits the denied application to the Special Branch Bureau of Royal Thai Police.
    2. The Special Branch Bureau of the Royal Thai Police informs the applicant on the denied application.
