Thailand Visa
Visa Options
In almost every case, you need to apply for a Thai visa to enter the Kingdom and stay for any amount of time. There are many kinds of visas for foreign nationals in Thailand, each with a distinct purpose and application process. On this page, we’ll go through the most common Thai visas for foreign citizens from the short-term tourist visas to the long-term visas intended for those who want to settle in Thailand.
Thailand Tourist Visa
The Thailand Tourist Visa can be both a single-entry and multiple-entry visa that allows you to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days. However, the visit must be strictly for tourism purposes or for medical treatments, and working on this visa is prohibited.
Thailand 90-Day Non-Immigrant Visa
The 90-Day Non-Immigrant Visa is a single-entry visa that allows you to enter and stay in Thailand for, as the name suggests, 90 days. It is issued to those who wish to be involved in performing official duties, religious activities, conducting business, working, studying, visiting family, and other activities in Thailand. It’s also a key step in acquiring some longer-term visas.
Thailand Business Visa
The Thailand Business Visa, also known as the Non-Immigrant B Visa, allows you to stay in Thailand to seek employment or open a business of your own in the Kingdom.
Thailand Marriage Visa
The Thailand Marriage Visa is a type of long-term visa that‘s specifically tailored for foreigners who are married to a Thai national and wish to settle down and remain in the Kingdom.
Thailand Retirement Visa
The Thailand Retirement Visa, also known as the Non-Immigrant OA Visa, is a popular choice for expats looking to retire in Thailand. However, you must be at least 50 years of age to qualify and meet a few more qualifications.
Thailand SMART Visa
The Thailand SMART Visa is a visa with a 4-year validity that was specifically designed for working professionals, investors, entrepreneurs, startup company owners, and executives who contribute to the targeted "S-Curve industries."
Destination Thailand Visa
The Destination Thailand Visa, also known as the DTV or, more informally, the "digital nomad visa," was designed to fit the lifestyles of digital nomads and remote workers. Though it grants a 5-year valid visa, you will only be able to remain in Thailand for 180 days per each entry to the Kingdom.
LTR Visa Thailand
The LTR Visa Thailand, also known as the Long-Term Resident Visa, is divided into four categories, each of which caters to the lifestyles of digital nomads, investors, retirees, and working professionals. It comes with a 10-year valid visa and a renewable 5-year multiple-entry permit that allows you to travel in and out of the Kingdom without needing to apply for a re-entry permit each time.
Along with this, it comes with added benefits that include annual reporting to the immigration office rather than the standard 90 days, expedited immigration processing at airports, and a significantly lower income tax rate depending on your chosen category.
Thailand Elite Visa
The Thailand Elite Visa is a type of long-term Thailand Tourist Visa that is by far the easiest and most rewarding way to stay long-term in the Kingdom. The Thailand Elite Visa comes in membership packages that allow stays ranging from 5 to 20 years and grants its holders a massive variety of benefits, including access to a point system, which opens doors to a wide variety of free perks. These include spa treatments and health procedures, hotel stays, special gifts and discounts, and expedited immigration processing at airports, just to name a few.
Thailand Visa Exemption Scheme and Visa on Arrival Program
If you are planning to enter the Kingdom for tourism purposes but don’t wish to stay longer than 90 days, you may be eligible to enter through the Thai Visa Exemption Scheme depending on your nationality. This scheme allows you to enter the country without needing to apply for a visa beforehand and stay in the country for up to 60 days, with the option to extend for another 30 days.
Thailand’s Visa on Arrival (VOA) program (also explained in the above link) is similar in that it allows visitors from certain countries to apply for a 15-day visa upon arriving in Thailand. While shorter in duration and cost a small fee, the VOA gives visitors not eligible for Visa Exemption Schme a way to enter Thailand without having to apply for a visa before traveling.
