Australia To Open E-Visa Services In Sydney

On March 1, 2024, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney announced that from March 19 onwards, an online stickerless e-visa application system will be implemented for Australians looking to visit Thailand on a tourist visa. This means that applicants will no longer need to submit their passports in person or by post to the Consulate-General, and can complete the application entirely over the internet. 

An e-visa is the same as a regular 90-day Thai visa for Australians, except you can apply for it online, which will save you the hassle of having to go through immigration with all your documents in hand.

Unfortunately, as good as this news is, the new system is only available to residents of New South Wales. If you live outside of that state, you will need to continue applying for visas at the Consulate-General as before.

If you are eligible for this visa, you can visit Thailand’s official e-Visa website and create an account. Afterward, you will need to fill out the application form, upload supporting documents, and pay an application fee (non-refundable in the case that the application is canceled or rejected). While the application is being reviewed, you can keep track of its status through your online account. 

If your application is successful, your visa will be sent by email, which you can later print out and present to the airlines and the Thai Immigration Bureau.
