Can I leave and re-enter Thailand on a DTV?
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a multiple-entry visa that does not require you to apply for a re-entry permit. There is no limit to the number of times you can exit and return to Thailand while holding a DTV, so long as it is active.
How Long is the processing time for the DTV Visa Thailand?
The processing times vary depending on the Thai Embassy in charge of assessing your application. On average, Thai Embassies located in neighboring countries (such as Laos and Vietnam) could take 1 week to process your applications. If you applied through Thai Embassies located in Western countries (such as the US or the UK), it could take between 2 to 4 weeks to receive your DTV.
Is the Destination Thailand Visa the same as the Thai Digital Nomad Visa?
"Digital Nomad Visa" is a kind of visa offered by many different nations intended for remote workers, and Thailand’s version is called the Destination Thailand Visa. Therefore, some people use "Digital Nomad Visa" interchangeably with "Destination Thailand Visa."
Can I extend my Destination Thailand Visa?
You can extend your DTV for another 180 days on top of your stay’s current duration, allowing you to stay up to a year without incurring any penalties. You can do this at least once every time you enter Thailand, but it will cost an additional extension fee and is subject to approval from the Thai immigration authorities.
Can I work on a Thai Digital Nomad Visa?
You can only use the visa to work as a freelancer, gain income through self-employment, or work remotely from Thailand for a company that is based in an overseas territory. If you reside in Thailand for over 180 days, you will be classified as a tax resident and be required to pay taxes on any foreign income you earn.
However, you cannot use this visa to seek employment in Thailand and work for a Thai company. To do this, you will need to apply for a Thai Non-Immigrant B Visa as well as acquire a Thai work permit right after.
Can I study on a Destination Thailand Visa?
You cannot use the visa to enroll in an educational program or a university. However, you can pursue knowledge in other avenues, particularly in Thai soft power activities. One of the ways you can qualify for the DTV is to enroll in these activities such as:
- Muay Thai courses
- Thai cooking courses
- Training sessions in various sports
Can I open a business on a Destination Thailand Visa?
You can open a Thai business while on a Destination Thailand Visa and become a shareholder of that company. However, you cannot work as an authorized director or as an employee in another role, as this will require a Thai work permit and business visa.
Can I purchase any property on a Destination Thailand Visa?
You can purchase some property in Thailand while on a DTV, but you are limited to property that other foreigners are allowed to own. This means you can rent, own, and purchase a condominium or a house, but you cannot buy the land that they are built on. This is because, under most circumstances, foreigners cannot buy land in Thailand in their name regardless of visa.
Can I pay for my Digital Nomad Visa using non-cash payment methods?
Thai Embassies only accept cash as a payment method for the DTV Visa. To ensure that you can progress through your application seamlessly, it is important to have enough cash available to pay the fees at the time of application.
Can I satisfy the financial requirement with assets?
No, you cannot fulfill the financial requirement with money from assets such as stocks, property, or cryptocurrency. Only liquid assets such as cash are acceptable to fulfill the 500,000 THB financial requirement, and you will have to prove you hold this amount with documentation such as a bank statement.
Who can I bring on my Destination Thailand Visa?
You can bring along members of your family on a Destination Thailand Visa and there are no limits to how many individuals who can derive a DTV from your primary visa. However, you can only include your spouse and dependent children on your DTV Visa, you will need to pay a fee for each member you plan to include, and they have to apply separately for the visa.
Are there any alternatives to a Destination Thailand Visa?
If you want other long-term visa options, you can look towards either the Thailand Privilege Visa or the LTR Visa Thailand. Each option allows for long-term stays in the country while working remotely, and each provides you with multiple benefits that are not available from a Destination Thailand Visa.
The Thai LTR Visa can be a perfect choice if you are adamant about staying long-term in Thailand. Valid for 10 years, this visa allows you to reside in Thailand more conveniently without the hassle of needing to leave the country or extend your visa on an annual basis. In addition, if you apply under the remote worker category, you are also exempted from needing to pay Thai income tax while on an LTR Visa, even if you are a tax resident and are earning foreign income.
On the other hand, getting a Thailand Privilege Visa (AKA the Thailand Elite Visa) offers you more flexibility by offering 4 luxury visa packages, each valid from 5 to 20 years. This visa has an exceedingly simple application process and provides numerous VIP perks such as complimentary access to premium lounges at airports, expedited immigration clearance upon arrival, and more. You also have access to the privilege points system, allowing you to customize your package by choosing which benefits to use.
What are the reasons for my application being rejected?
If your application has been rejected by the Thai Embassy, some of the common reasons for it include one of the following:
- Insufficient financial evidence or documentation
- Missing or incomplete documentation
- Inconsistent or inaccurate information on your application
- If the Thai Embassy has any concerns about your ability to adhere to visa conditions
- The Thai Soft Power Activity you are enrolled in is not valid for the DTV
Do I have to pay taxes on a Destination Thailand Visa?
If you are living in Thailand for at least 180 days and are earning income from overseas, you will be classed as a Thai tax resident and you will need to pay income taxes in Thailand.
