What Are the Different Types of Singapore Visas?

Singapore Tourist Visa

The Singapore Tourist Visa is a travel document allowing you to enter Singapore for tourism, medical, or social purposes. It is valid for 30-90 days with the possibility of an extension. There is also a long-term option known as a Long-Stay Visit Pass, which is available to you if you are a family member of an Employment Pass holder, but do not qualify for the Dependent Pass.

Singapore Business Visa

If you are looking to travel to Singapore to participate in business-related activities, then you should apply for a Singapore Business Visa. This visa enables you to partake in many commercial activities such as business negotiations, meetings, conferences, and seminars, but not paid work.

Singapore Work Visa

If you have secured employment in Singapore and need to move to the country, you can qualify for the Singapore Work Visa. Also known as an Employment Pass, this allows you to apply for a work permit and legally take up employment in Singapore. If you received a job offer for a mid to high-skilled role, you can also acquire a special S-Pass.

Singapore Student Visa

If you want to pursue higher education in Singapore and are enrolled at an educational institution in the country, you can apply for a Singapore Student Visa. Also known as a Student Pass, this travel document permits you to study in the country and advance your education.

Singapore Dependent Visa

If you are currently holding an employment pass or an S-Pass, your dependents can qualify for a Singapore Dependent Visa. Also known as a Dependent Pass, this allows your dependents to remain in Singapore for the same duration as you.

Singapore Visa-Free Transit Facility

Depending on your nationality, you may not need to apply for a visa to fly to or transit through Singapore. The Singapore Transit Visa allows you to exit the transit area of the airport and remain in the country for up to 96 hours while waiting for a flight to arrive.

Singapore Visa Requirements

Whether you need a Singapore visa or not will depend on various factors such as your current status as a non-Singaporean national or your foreign nationality. You must complete an application to acquire a valid Singaporean visa while in Thailand if you are from any of the following countries:

  • Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tunisia
  • Asia: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan

Required Documents for a Singapore Visa from Thailand

Each Singapore visa requires a set number of documents that you need to submit as part of its application process. What documents you need to provide while you are in Thailand depends on the type of visa you are applying for. On a general level, you need to submit the following documents:

  • Valid passport (at least 6 months validity remaining and a photocopy of your passport’s biodata page must be presented)
  • A signed and completed online application form (for the Singaporean visa of your choice)
  • A signed and completed Letter of Introduction for Visa Application (if applicable)
  • Passport-sized photograph of yourself (in color, size 35mm wide by 45mm high, taken against a white background, taken in the past 6 months)
  • Proof of your finances, to show you have enough to cover the entire duration of your visa (i.e. bank statement)
  • Flight itinerary (with details of your return flight ticket back to Thailand)
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (only applicable if you have been to any countries currently experiencing a yellow fever pandemic)
  • Any additional documents requested as part of the application

Applying for a Singapore Visa in Thailand

To apply, you simply have to complete the application form for the visa of your choice and submit it along with uploading your required documents. You then need to apply through an authorized visa application center. In Thailand, Singaporean visas are assessed and issued by VFS Singapore, a visa application center in Bangkok and a partner of the Embassy of Singapore.

During your application, you might be required to provide your biometrics and book an in-person appointment with VFS. Upon completing this step and paying the application fee, your application will undergo further processing. Because Singaporean visas are issued electronically, you will receive an E-visa once approved.

The E-visa highlights the number of entries allowed into the country and how long your new visa will be valid for. You can also print out a copy of your E-visa for your benefit. You will need to show confirmation of it to the immigration officers upon arrival before you can cross the border.
