Spain Business Visa for Thai
If you plan to engage in business activities during your stay in Spain, you might qualify for a Schengen Business Visa. This visa will allow you to partake in unpaid commercial activities such as attending conferences, setting up private meetings with business partners, or taking part in trade fairs and exhibitions.
Continue reading to learn more about the benefits you can enjoy from a Spanish Business Visa, the documents you need to submit, and how to apply for it.
What is a Spanish Business Visa?
Alternatively known as a Schengen Business Visa, this travel document allows you to visit Spain for less than 3 months for business-related purposes. It is valid for up to 90 days within a 180-day period and you can choose between a single-entry or multiple-entry option.
This visa is meant for short-term business trips, not for living and working in Spain on a long-term basis. To secure permanent employment, you will need to apply for a Spanish work visa and acquire a work permit instead. You are also not permitted to use the visa as a way to establish your own business in the country.
A business visa grants you permission to participate in any of the following unpaid activities while residing in Spain:
- Attend important business meetings and conferences
- Help a Spanish business partner
- Join training sessions and workshops
- Partake in trade fairs and exhibitions
- Conduct any necessary internal audits in Spain
Because this visa falls under the Schengen Business Visa category, you can use it to travel to other countries that are a part of the Schengen Area. As long as it is active, you can visit the following European countries:
- Eastern Europe: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia
- Northern Europe: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden
- Southern Europe: Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain
- Western Europe: Austria, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland
Spanish Business Visa Requirements
Despite being a Schengen visa, the Spanish Business Visa is only available if you are going to Spain for business purposes. If you are just visiting for sightseeing, you should apply for a Spanish Tourist Visa.
To ensure that your business visa application goes by smoothly and to minimize delays, you must satisfy the following requirements:
- You must intend to visit Spain for business-related purposes (outside of setting up a business).
- You must be invited by a Spanish company or business partner.
- You must have enough funds to cover the entire duration of your stay (at least €113 per day with a minimum balance of €1020 on the bank statement).
- You must have health insurance coverage of at least €30,000.
Required Documents for a Schengen Business Visa
To secure your Spanish Business Visa, you will need to collect and submit a number of documents for the application. These include:
- Completed and signed Schengen Visa Application Form
- Valid passport (with at least 6 months validity remaining and 2 blank pages)
- Passport-sized photograph of yourself (in color, size 4.5cm x 3.5cm, taken against a white background in the past 6 months)
- Proof of finances to show you can support yourself on your trip (such as a bank statement)
- Proof of accommodation in Spain (such as a hotel reservation)
- A return flight ticket back to Thailand (the details should be shown on the flight itinerary)
- Proof of health insurance coverage in Spain
- A cover letter describing your reasons for wanting to acquire a business visa and providing details of all individuals who will be accompanying you
- Proof of your occupation (such as a letter of employment, company registration, or student certificate)
- Any additional documents as required by the immigration authorities
Depending on the purpose of your trip, there are also some documents you have to provide. This includes:
- Invitation letter from an inviting individual or company with details on the purpose of the visit
- Documents highlighting the economic situation, ownership, and business activities of the inviting company
- Proof of previous business collaborations (if you have previously collaborated with a Spanish business partner)
- Invitation letter for a business meeting with details on the host and the agenda (if you are going to be attending a business meeting)
- Invitation letter from organizers (if you will be attending a trade fair or exhibition)
All documents must be in Spanish or English, and those that are not will have to be accompanied by a certified English translation. If any required document you provide is, for instance, in Thai, then you will need to get it translated and legalized.
How to Apply for a Spanish Business Visa in Thailand
The steps you will need to go through to apply for a Spanish Business Visa are similar to that of a standard Schengen Visa application. After gathering all your documents and submitting your application, it will be received by the Spanish BLS (also known as the Spanish Visa Application Center). They will collate your biometric information and conduct an initial application review.
With everything in order, your application will be forwarded to the Spanish Embassy in Thailand for further processing. During this stage, you may be requested to attend an in-person interview at the Embassy. The immigration officer will ask questions about your reasons for visiting Spain on a business visa.
Once a decision has been made on your application and you have received notification of its approval, your visa will be affixed to your passport. You can then choose whether to collect your passport at the visa application center in person or request it to be dropped off at your address in Thailand via courier service.
