90-Day Visa Thailand

Thailand Visa

If you want to stay in Thailand for longer than 30 days, then you would require a Thai visa. However, if you want a slightly longer stay in the Land of Smiles, acquiring a 90-day visa Thailand will grant you a smooth entry into the country without any added stress. This visa is different from a 90-day tourist visa, enabling you to do more than just travel.

This single-entry visa offers you the opportunity to stay in Thailand for up to 90 days with the chance to renew it for an additional 7 days upon its expiry, able to enter Thailand only once. A major privilege of being a Thailand 90-day visa holder is that you can also extend it by applying for a 1-year non-immigrant visa, awarding you with a long-term multiple-entry visa, and letting you reside in Thailand for longer. If you are successful in acquiring the 1-year visa, it may even set you down the path of permanent residency.

Note

The 90-day Non-Immigrant Visa is not the same as the Thailand Tourist Visa. If you wish to apply for a tourist visa to Thailand, you’ll have to contact the Thai Embassy or consulate in your country. Learn more about the Thailand Tourist Visa here.

The visas that this Thailand 90-day Visa can be extended to are divided into specific categories depending on your plans in Thailand, some of the common ones include:

Requirements for a 90-day Visa in Thailand

You must meet certain requirements to qualify for this particular visa. One of the most important aspects to keep in mind is that you will need to be physically present in the country you are applying for the Non-Immigrant Visa. For instance, if you are applying for it as a Canadian, you must be in Canada when you lodge your application.

In addition to this, you will also need to present a few documents before you can acquire your 90-day Visa Thailand. These include:

  • A valid passport with no less than 6 months validity remaining on the document
  • Proof of finances (either a bank statement or recent pay slip would do)
  • A copy of your travel itinerary
  • Proof of payment of the embassy fee
  • A confirmation letter or invitation issued to you by a relevant organization, clearly stating your intentions to visit Thailand (if applicable)

Once you have all these items ready, you will then have to apply to the Royal Thai Consulate or Embassy in your home country, either via mail or by going in person.

The 90-Day Thai Visa Application Journey

If you are applying for the Non-Immigrant Visa, you’ll need to complete the following steps:

  1. Gather all your required documents for the application.
  2. Send all these documents to the Royal Thai Consulate or Thai Embassy in your home country to begin the submission process.
  3. Pay the fee required by the Embassy or Consulate (may vary by country), payable by either cheque, cash, or debit card.
  4. Await the review and approval of your application (usually lasting between 5 to 10 business days, although it could last longer depending on your location).
  5. Collect your new visa and enjoy staying in Thailand.

When you are awarded the Thailand 90-day Visa, you’ll still need to abide by certain conditions:

  • You can only remain in Thailand for up to 90 consecutive days and will have to renew your visa to reach this maximum length before hitting 60 days.
  • You must fulfill all requirements for your desired visa extension category (Retirement Visa, Marriage Visa, etc.) to be eligible to extend your non-immigrant visa to 1 year.
  • You’ll have to pay overstay penalties if you end up staying in Thailand beyond 90 days, and may be barred from re-entering the country.
